Service Technician
Cape Town
NovaMarine, a division of the Sturrock Grindrod Maritime Group, is looking to secure the permanent services of a Service Technician. All suitably qualified and experienced candidates are invited to apply.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The purpose of a service technician is to be responsible for the servicing of lifeboats and related equipment, ensuring that all work and equipment comply with prescribed standards and applicable legislation.
Duties and responsibilities
- Establish scope of work.
- Responsible for complying to all manufacturers’ specifications.
- Quality control and inspection of finished equipment / products.
- Assist the service team with technical quotations.
- Ensure that all health and safety rules and regulations along with equipment are adhered to according to ISO, SABS and SOLAS standards.
- Service and recondition of lifeboat and fire equipment.
- Test equipment according to instructions before commencing work.
- Conduct regular site audits and make recommendations to management on how to keep a safe working environment.
- Ensure that all administration such as job cards, marking of equipment, service reports and certification is completed timeously.
- Ensure that the correct personal protective equipment and all the necessary safety measures are put in place.
- Maintain a clean and tidy workshop.
Qualifications
- Minimum Matric or equivalent.
- Advantageous to be certified by the South African Qualification and Certification Committee for the Fire industry (SAQCC).
- Systems training – CO2 Systems (Fixed Fire Systems) is advantageous.
Experience
- Experience with annual and 5 yearly servicing of lifeboats and davits, rescue boats / FRCs and work boats.
- Three years experience in a multi-skilled technical role.
- Experience in offshore work is a necessity.
Skills and competencies
- Must be able to travel offshore and locally as operationally required.
- Must be in possession of a valid and clean code 08 licence. A code 10 licence will be advantageous.
- Be physically fit and able to work in harsh conditions.
- The ability to interact with customers and employees.
- Make and action decisions in an effective manner.
- Well organised, sober habits and high attention to detail.
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Office is essential.
